Pair of paintings on rice paper

About this piece

Pair of antique paintings on rice paper

Like a window open onto an imperial garden, this delicate pair of paintings invites contemplation. Pheasants, water birds, plum blossom, camellias and peonies answer one another in a composition full of poetry — in China a symbol of prosperity, harmony and happiness.

Painted on rice paper and subtly heightened with soft colours, they bear witness to the refinement of Asian decorative art. Framed under silvered mouldings, they form an elegant diptych that dresses a wall with lightness and distinction.

More than decoration, these works bring an atmosphere: that of a peaceful garden where time seems suspended. A discreet presence, but unforgettable.
