Patricia Ederhy, antiquaire…
About me

Patricia Ederhy, antique dealer…

As an antique dealer, I have been passionate for more than thirty years about objects that carry a story, a soul, and that singular beauty that only time can reveal.

My path has been shaped by travel, by encounters and, above all, by coups de cœur: Teck Home in 2000, Galerie Cristo on rue Paul-Bert in 2007, then Galerie 55, which I founded at the Marché Biron.

Today, Galerie 55 is my whole world: Chinese antique furniture, unexpected objects, design and contemporary art answer one another freely. I follow no fixed rules; I let emotion and harmony guide the encounters. Events have found their place here too.

And this is only the beginning 😉

A passion born of travel

A sensibility shaped by the world of decoration

It all began in Bali, on a trip with Stéphane Ederhy.

In 2000, we opened Teck Home, first devoted to colonial furniture, then to pieces from Indonesia. It was through our explorations that the first pieces of Chinese antique furniture entered our selection.

I admit it: they did not win me over at once. I loved sober lines, not carved or richly ornamented pieces.

And yet it was they that changed the way I see. I learned to read the depth of a patina, the power of an old red lacquer, the softness of elm polished by generations of hands. Behind their imperfections, I discovered an unexpected modernity: century-old furniture that finds its place naturally in the interiors of today.

On 17 September 2006, we discovered the Chinese house at the Puces de Saint-Ouen: a true revelation. One year later to the day, we opened the Galeries Cristo, at 33 and 41 rue Paul-Bert: two neighbouring galleries, in a spectacular setting imagined by Yannick Cinelli around an old Chinese house that had been dismantled and reinvented amid lush vegetation.

China then became our common thread. Beijing, Shanxi, Fujian… We travelled, met antique dealers, pushed open the doors of markets, houses and villages, while continuing to seek pieces from professionals across Europe.

A discerning selection

A selection guided by emotion

I never look for perfection. I look for a soul, an emotion, a presence.

A lacquer softened by time, wood marked by touch, an old colour reappearing beneath another, a discreet repair… These traces are not flaws: they tell the life of the object, and that is what makes it unique.

At Galerie 55, I choose each piece one by one, for its material, its patina and its story: wedding wardrobes, lacquered sideboards, scholar’s tables, cabinets, screens, altar objects or curiosities.

Little by little, my eye opened to a freer, more personal world. A Chinese wardrobe from the late 19th or early 20th century can thus sit beside a contemporary work, a Murano chandelier, a sculpture or an old fountain from a riad in Marrakech.

I work by coup de cœur. Some pieces impose themselves; others are quieter — but all must move me. I prefer harmony to fixed codes, and I love bringing into dialogue objects that seem to have nothing in common.

The gallery, at the heart of the Marché Biron

Galerie 55 — An unexpected place at the Puces de Saint-Ouen

A new chapter opened: Galerie 55, at the heart of the Marché Biron.

A place apart, in this mythical, century-old market with its red carpet, where antique dealers, art lovers, decorators, artists and curious visitors from around the world have crossed paths for generations.

Here, I wanted my world to breathe: a living place where the antique meets the contemporary, where cultures and eras answer one another without ever opposing.

Galerie 55 is also about encounters and discoveries: artists’ exhibitions, book signings, events, unexpected collaborations… Very little is planned far in advance.

Everything begins with a coup de cœur: for a work, an object, an artist, a story — or simply a meeting.

But this world is best lived in person, not through a screen. You need to come and touch the patinas, look deep into an old lacquer, see the light transform the objects, and discover how a contemporary work can echo a Chinese piece more than a century old.

So push open the door. We will take the time to look, to talk and to tell the stories of the pieces over a cup of tea.

At the Puces, one sometimes arrives with a clear idea… and often leaves with a coup de cœur one had not come looking for.

That, perhaps, is the magic of the Puces. ✨
