Inner Whirlwind – Hélène Caust, 2009
Created in 2009 following the death of her father, this work marks an intimate turning point in Hélène Caust’s path. Self-taught, the artist finds in painting an outlet, a language able to translate what words cannot express.
On this canvas, colours accumulate, overlap and organise themselves in an almost organic spiral movement. Each gesture seems to answer the previous one, creating a continuous vibration in which the material comes alive. Scale-like touches, luminous flashes and coloured projections build a universe in perpetual transformation.
The gaze is drawn toward the centre of the composition, as into a whirlwind of emotions, memories and energy. Depth is born of the meticulous alignment of colours, while the movement seems to unfold well beyond the frame. More than a painting, this work is an inner crossing: that of an artist who transforms loss into creation, chaos into harmony, and pain into a luminous force. Every colour tells an emotion; every relief bears witness to a rebuilding, making this canvas a true homage to resilience and the power of the creative act.
