The Travellers
Italy, c. 1960–1980
Some pieces light a room. Others light the imagination.
The Travellers belong to that second category.
Suspended in their meridians as once in the cabinets of great explorers, these two terrestrial globes seem to have crossed oceans before coming to rest in an interior. Their antique maps tell of a world in which unknown lands still fed dreams, and where sea routes were as many promises of adventure as mysteries to discover.
The eye loses itself in the details: a ship sailing toward the horizon, a distant coast, a continent whose outlines are still imprecise. At nightfall, when the light comes on, the globes seem to come alive again and remind us that every journey always begins with a dream.
Made in Italy in the second half of the 20th century, these lamps combine the elegance of a scientific object with the poetry of a travel souvenir. Their turned bases, warm patina and cartography inspired by the great discoveries make them decorative pieces of rare presence.
In a library, a study or a living room, they invite one to slow down, contemplate and imagine. They evoke steamer trunks, explorers’ journals, maps unfolded on a table before departure.
More than lamps, they are two permanent invitations to travel. Two windows open onto the world, for those who have never ceased to have an explorer’s soul.
