About this piece

The fisherman’s coat

Hand-woven in plant fibres, this antique fisherman’s coat bears witness to an ancestral way of life in which every object was designed to meet the demands of nature and daily life.

Once worn by fishermen of Asia’s coastal regions, it served as protection against rain, wind and spray. Its raw texture, natural patina and sculptural look make it today a decorative piece as rare as it is evocative.

Hung on a wall, it becomes a true ethnographic work, charged with history and memory. More than an object, it is the silent testimony of traditional know-how and of a culture deeply bound to the elements.
