Carved Kang low table – China, 20th century
An elegant Kang low table in solid wood patinated by time, once meant to sit on the kang, the traditional heated platform of houses in northern China. Its openwork apron is finely carved with geometric and symbolic motifs, bearing witness to the craftsmanship of Chinese artisans at the end of the Qing dynasty.
Its low, balanced silhouette, carried on four curved legs, gives it a discreet yet refined presence. The deep brown patina, worn at the edges by decades of use, reveals all the nobility of the wood and the authenticity of the piece.
Today this table finds its place naturally as a coffee table, sculpture stand, display for a work of art, or even a small meditation console. It brings to a contemporary interior that timeless elegance proper to Chinese scholar’s furniture.
A rare piece where every mark of time tells a story — between tradition, serenity and the Asian art of living.
